Bringing translations to Ovivo

For us as a client, Ovivo started out over 7 years ago as Brackett Green, then Eimco Water Technologies and now an amalgamation of companies under the umbrella of Ovivo. Their tag line ‘Bringing Water to Life’ nicely sums up their more detailed mission statement “Creating value in water through innovation, creativity and expertise in industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment”.

Quite a mouthful!

Put simply, they design, build and sell heavy duty industrial water pumping equipment and associated water treatment machinery. Much of which is sold abroad, much of which needs translating by our expert technical translators.

How we answered the brief

We are contacted on a frequent basis by Ovivo whenever one of their products is being sold abroad. In this instance however, they had been contacted by the engineering giant Siemens who had provided them with designs for a water coolant system for a nuclear power plant, which Ovivo then had to build.

No mean feat considering the accuracy required of such a piece of equipment and the nature of the job it’s designed to do!

Ovivo knew they needed to contact a reliable and accurate translation agency with experience working in the technical field, to translate all the associated schematics and operating manuals naturally involved with a project of this scale.

Luckily, Ovivo chose Living Word and whilst we were immediately aware of the challenge in taking on such a risky project, we kept our cool and in turn chose two of our very best German to English translators, who we knew would be best qualified for the work ahead.

The results

Ovivo sent us over huge array of CAD schematics, manuals and technical diagrams in digital format, which equated to around 150,000 words for translation. We were tasked with not only providing the translations in English but also with flowing the copy back directly into the original CAD files – at the time this was a first for us.

We were given a set of time periods to deliver each section of the work and then receive feed back from Siemens’ own industrial experts with minor amends and changes to the designs during the lifetime of the project. These minor changes in turn had to be translated and then approved by Siemens.

We are pleased to say, our German to English technical translator and proofreader worked extremely hard to meet each deadline within the project and the feedback we received from Siemens was excellent . In fact Siemens were so impressed with the overall standard of our translations, they requested Ovivo continue to use us specifically for all their future requests for this language combination.

As for the Nuclear Power Plant, thanks to our accurate and impressive translations, Siemens’ German designed and Ovivo’s British built water cooling system, those potentially dangerous rods of uranium are kept tightly under control!

“We have been using Livingword’s translation service for over 7 years and in that time have found them efficient and professional. They have been able to provide technical translations for some very complex schematic diagrams as well as text intensive industrial manuals. Our clients are always very happy with the quality of translation and when needed, we will not hesitate to use their services again.”, Ovivo Water Technologies
