The Cambridge seal of approval
The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds and also one our oldest and most loyal clients. Working with them over the past 8 years has given us the opportunity to further our credibility in the examination translation market with other exam boards and education authorities.
CIE market their examination qualifications all around the world for a variety of courses ranging from drama and history to languages and science. As markets have grown, so has the need to translate new exam materials and information on courses for their website.
It was for this very need that CIE came to us recently to translate website copy for their acclaimed IGCSEs, AS and A Level exams into Arabic, Hindi, Spanish and Chinese. IGCSEs are taken in 135 countries worldwide and are widely recognised by higher education institutions and employers around the world as evidence of academic ability. Cambridge International AS and A Levels have widespread international recognition as educational qualifications.
How we answered the brief
Applying the right translators to the job is paramount. Our CIE approved translators are academics in their own right and have all the necessary experience needed for translating educational texts on subjects as diverse as those mentioned here.
CIE sent over the source English text to us in HTML format for us to work on directly in each language, then have it converted to unicode ready to be uploaded onto their website. The files were firstly given to the specialist HTML translators for translation into each language, then to the proofreaders to be checked, and finally to our engineer who worked on unicoding the files.
Working with these kind of files can be a challenge, especially when it comes to the more tricky languages such as Arabic, and CIE were more than happy to have our expert translators and engineers take away any concerns they may have had processing the files themselves.
The results
After a few rounds of minor amends from the client, the course content copy in Arabic, Hindi, Spanish and Chinese was ready for the world to see. We are proud of our achievements working with CIE and the feedback we get is always a pleasure to read.
Ultimately we know that having this kind of approval from one of the most celebrated universities in the world is as rewarding as it can possibly get.
"The staff are friendly and flexible with work requirements, the work is excellent quality and the turnaround is quick, a great company and a pleasure to work with.", The University of Cambridge International Examinations
